Already time for the August cruise. Our July 15th cruise went very well – no rain and almost 100 cars. Hot dog sales went really well. The July 23rd Kalmar Motors Cruise for Relay for Life also went very well with over 80 cars. The people from Relay for Life and the Kalmar Motors management were very happy with the turnout and the event.
Eleven of us went on the damn tour. The weather was beautiful – a little on the hot side – the pavilion that housed the history of the Conemaugh project was air-conditioned, so we spent a good while in there and learned a lot about the Pennsylvania railroad relocation in order to achieve proper elevations for the dam. We ended the day with a meal at Marchitelli's restaurant in Saltsburg.
The Lincoln Highway Market trip was a lot of fun. We saw a movie, toured the museum and enjoyed all of the different foods and music. We had a short club meeting and chose the charity for the August cruise at the Cadet – Cystic Fibrosis.
Our August cruise is Wednesday, August 19th, at the Cadet. Set up will start at 2PM and the cruise will go from 4PM until 11PM. Regular cruise timing applies, but people are welcome to stay until 11PM – the restaurant is supposed to stay open – and, if not, there's always the 24 hour Sheetz - and Jorn said that he'd run the music until the last guest car left. We have teardown handled with volunteers that suggested staying late for one cruise this season.
We have been asked, by Sheriff Bill Rupert, to please help out with the K-9 Kruise-Aid in downtown Kittanning. 10AM to 10PM, Sunday, September 6th, 2015. It will be held in the Kittanning Riverfront park and will have live bands and food vendors. This event is to raise funds for a drug dog for Armstrong County – with funds raised, local companies are offering matching funds. It is an expensive proposition because getting and having the dog also means training, housing, specially equipped USED SUV and so forth. Our task would be parking, registration, goody bags assembly, door prizes and 50/50. If you want to help your communityin this special way, please consider volunteering for this event. Please contact me if you can help out – no need for all 12 hours – any hours that you can help will be greatly appreciated. This event will also have a bike run managed by others.
The Keystone Kruisers picnic is Saturday, September 19th, 3PM to ?, at Russ and Shirley Collar's place out toward Wattersonville. We are all invited. If you plan to attend, please bring a covered dish – there's always more to eat than anyone can.
The Kit-Han-Ne picnic is Saturday, September 26th at the Constitution pavilion at Crooked Creek Lake Park. We 'bought' the 2nd half of the day, which means from 3PM to 9PM. If no other group is using the first half of the day, we'll be allowed in a little earlier to set up. The Keystone Kruisers and the Shannock Valley Club are all invited to this event and Wes McLAughlin has suggested that we invite some long-gone people that may still be around the area – the Glendenings, and Russ & Genann Clever – and others that others can think of. The Constitution pavilion is across the dam toward the horse park – just as you cross the dam, first lane to your left and then the Constitution is on your right – this pavilion has the playground with it and nearby bathrooms.
We will be voting for officers for 2016. Anyone interested in an officer positions, or stepping down from an officer position, please notify me before the September 23rd meeting. We will be voting at the October 28th meeting.
Our next club meeting will be held at Cabin Greens Golf cOurse, Wednesday, August 23rd – dinner 6PM, meeting at 7PM.
